oh I use sai. but I used to have ps elements to make the bg... but I can't use it anymore >.< (they forgot to give me a code when I got my tablet, it was free with it) so now I'm depressed -.- it would be so much prettier if the bg wasn't white D= oh well... dvpahdt[bae I did it! I made one <3
Actually, i'd suggest you use gimp to do icons- it's real easy when you understand the program~
But if you want to use sai, then do this:
1. Imagine the starter layer as 'Background' layer (in SAI)
2. Draw the icon on a different layer over the background layer
3. Once you finish the icon, save the file in .psd (with the finished icon still on top of the background layer)
4. Open the file in GIMP
5. There, delete the background layer and save in .png
You can actually even do the animations on gimp~
